I have always been inspired by art and I do feel that the line between crafting and art is a very fine one. That being said I decided to do something a bit out of the box and I made a beautiful tray using Tarot cards. Now I know people have different opinions of Tarot cards but if you set all that a side and look at the artistic value only they are very interesting. The artwork is something that I find the most fasinating. That being said my curiousity got the better of me and after I finished this project I thought to myself, "I wonder what these cards mean". I went through a whole deck and these were the eight cards I picked out because the artwork appealed to me the most. So I went online and looked them up and what learned floored me. The cards from the top left corner across mean... Knowledge, Patience, Moderation, Conquest, Mirage, Nurishment, Agreement and Control. Those eight cards describe me almost perfect. I didn't include the Joker card, then it would have been perfect.
Yes, the arrow in the middle does spin! |
After painting the tray a metallic purple, I then laid a piece of acetate on the bottom and placed Tarot cards on top. I then used a Martha Stewart punch and outlined the cards. The embellishment in the middle is a Tim Holtz and the gems are a combo of Martha Stewart and Jolee crystals. I then put a sheet of Plexiglas on top however because the guy at Ace hardware cut the glass too small I had to get creative here. I outlined the sides of the Plexiglas with another design using an Ek punch. All in all, this is really a very easy project.![]() |

The artwork on the cards is pretty amazing. I wanted you to see what the tray looked like before I started the project. It was just a tray I picked up at the Goodwill store for .50 cents.

What a drastic change, right? |
I've decided to enter this into a new challenge blog I've found at http://artwithnoboundaries.blogspot.com/.
I do want to send a special thank you to the following ladies for entering my blog candy giveaway yesterday. Due to circumstances (unknown to me) I have decided to go ahead and end this giveaway and will be chosing one of you lucky ladies on Monday to win the Sizzix/Hero Art set. Actually, Ms. Kiki will chose, as always! I was disappointed, to say the least, but your support means a lot to me. It really does.

This is awesome. What a beautiful and intriguing project! I love the spinner idea. Thanks for entering Art with No Boundaries.
Beautiful! Amazing how the cards you chose described you. tfs
This is so cool! I love the project and it's funny that you chose the cards you did (that they fit you). You did make me laugh on Pam's blog with your comment- I was having major technical difficulty leaving a comment- please don't feel like I don't REALLY like your tray if I don't leave you 4 comments...LOL (I am just kidding too!) :)Amy
What an interesting project! I'm thinking of all the fun teaparties you can have with this tray...
Thanks for joining us at Art with no Boundaries...do visit again!
Susan, I love this tray! Great job on this project!!!
Personally, I'm glad you left off the Joker card; I couldn't in any way see how it would relate to you, my friend -- although I have no clue what it means with regard to Tarot cards... lol!!!
Wow what an improvement! I love the recreation of your tray. It looks wonderful! I love the colors and the paper you used!
Your tray is a work of bee-utiful art.

Wow Susan! This is fabulously beautiful! This is super creative! And I'm gonna have to agree - there is a fine line between crafting and art! Did it take you a long time to do this?
And there's no such thing as a silly question! I'm still trying to figure out all the American holidays haha. Yes we do celebrate it like our neighbours (you!). We have turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, the whole deal! :) I know that for you, Thanksgiving isn't until November right? You still have time to prepare! Apparently, we have this gap in Thanksgiving because Canadians harvest their crops earlier. That's what we learned in Socials class!
Have a fabulous weekend Susan!!
Hugs,
Tracey
Hi Susan, thanks for the nice comments on my blog.
I love tarot cards, I collect them. The tray is awesome love what you did with it.
I'm sorry, I can't even look at this project. I was brought up in a Catholic home to believe tarot cards were strictly the work of the devil. Ooohhh, just kiddin (did you read my last comment about wanting to be a witch??!!) Not about the Catholic home part, but my maternal grandma was fascinated by tarot! This project is definitely a work of art! Wow, Susan, you did an amazing job! And oh my gosh, what a transformation of the tray! This is just fabulous! I love, love, love it!! Gorgeous! Stunning!
I'm sorry I'll miss out on a Ms. Kiki-chosen giveaway, but she doesn't like me anyway, even with my blatant bribe attempts ;D
Hugs, Lisa :)
